Spencer Gillespie is an artist who’s interdisciplinary practice focuses on themes of fluidity, performance, and the physical process of non-representational art making. She explores intimate, discarded, and symbolically charged materials to break down and interrogate gendered social constructs that condition our behavior. Spencer received her BA from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2017, and her MFA from Colorado State University in 2021.

Spencer’s paintings and sculptures have been featured in numerous exhibitions, including recent exhibitions at the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art, and the ArtLab Gallery at Florida Gulf Coast University. She is currently a member of the Master of Visual Arts Association at Colorado State University, and recently facilitated and helped create a mural at the Denver’s Rinoart district’s CRUSH mural festival. Spencer has also been the recipient of multiple scholarships and grants for her work and research including the Keith Foskin Fine Arts Scholarship and the Colorado Graduate Grant.

As well as being a practicing artist, Spencer Gillespie has dedicated herself to being an active educator in many academic roles. She has instructed innovative courses for the Department of Art and Art History at Colorado State University and taught K-12 courses as a substitute teacher for the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, CO.
